Strategies for Public Occupation

Less is much more

The main idea while designing this structure was to come up with something simple but with various functions, to serve the users without becoming an obstacle, and when present not to deny the presence of other functional structures around it.

A simple structure (fig. 1) is used to hold together two planar elements (fig. 2 and 3) which rotate around two horizontal structural elements to provide different functions (seat, table, stand etc.) depending on the will of the user. This simple structure is meant to be multiplied to provide waste areas of multiple-usage possibilities without occupying too much space. It may be multiplied horizontally to provide flat areas of different dimensions (long seat rows, long tables etc.) or vertically to provide height (which could act as a stage, sightseeing spot etc.).

Perspective

The property of the structure to occupy little space gives it the ability to be used in different places like parks, sidewalks, buss stations and many other places. When the panels are closed, the structure does not represent an obstacle to the circulation, and when opened it becomes of good service to anyone walking by.
